I was supposed to blog this a few days ago. I got distracted with a lot of things including Saturday Nights' Main Event.
Ok
so my memory is getting a little rusty as I age. But have you ever had
the feeling that a memory is greater than the actual experience? Well
this story goes all the way back to '92 or '93. When this girl in my
class named Tiffany threw a party at the local roller rink. I'm pretty
sure she invited all the girls from our class.
Some
things I remember about that place were distinctly 90s. Like at the
snack bar they were selling those plastic novelty pacifiers. I'm not
going to lie and say I didnt like those things. I use to rock a pink one
with my sleeveless hoodie. Yeah I was cool... But hey it was the 90s! I
also remember they use to play good 90s jamz to skate to especially for
the couples/group skating. I remember she got a Cool Spot game for her
gameboy.
Ok
so now we go to 2006 and my cousin had his party there. Now I'm not
dissing him because it was a good party. But the funny thing is that his
party was being held at the same rink Tiffany had her party at. So when
I enter the rink its almost the same as I remember it. They still had
those some old 4-wheel orange wheeled skates. That have your shoe size
on the back and make me feel really self conscious then and now. I have a
thing about my shoe size. Wait I should be talking about that right
here and right now! That show be another blog maybe if I remember or
something. They still had that orange carpeting on the walls in the
skating area. It was like I was back in the 90s. At first it was
comforting, but then it seemed kind of sad. I mean if I hadn't heard
Hilary Duff and Cascada I would've sworn I was back in time. I think the
best part of my old memory was that the music was really good back
then. But I think a lot of times music makes you have a more intense
memory. Maybe the music in the 90s was better music to skate to. Plus
the DJ played a lot of reggaeton and thats just not my thing. If I was
the DJ I'd play 2 specific songs because they had cool videos that
featured a roller rink and they are "Dope Man" by Less than Jake and
"Every Morning" by Sugar Ray.
I realized something else while I was there when I was in 3rd grade I was much better skater than I am now. I was better at a lot of things back then.
